Nevada,

One buck if you are lucky enough to get drawn in the Lottery.  The easiest tags to get will only get drawn about every other year.  The best tags take several years of bonus points to draw.  That is for a rifle tag.  Muzzle loader and Archery are a little easier.

Here in Maine it is one DEER...........and only the doe if you get an any-deer permit.

But there are several 'expanded archery' zones in the suburban areas where you are allowed multiple deer.

Here in Ontario (yeah ,I know It's not a state,(yet))
we get 1 tag thats good for a buck (3" of antler) anywhere there is an open season with the option to apply for an antlerless tag at no cost.
Because some WMUs have an explosion of deer population we can buy additional tags in a WMU that offers them to a total of six additional tags province wide for a total of 7. (at $37 each for residents)
Most add. tags are good for buck or doe & most are archery only season ( including crossbows)
And most of the big bucks here in the Caledon/Orangeville area tip the scales at close to 300lbs with does at 180lbs. Needless to say we spread the meat around to family, friends & folks who can't afford beef. Cool

Virginia,

this is for rifle only.

East of the Blue Ridge Mts., when you buy your license, you get three ( either sex) , but we use them as bucks tags, & two does tags, in most counties.  there are  many different rules for opening day, & # of deer, that it's best to read the laws for the counties you intend to hunt.
I hunt Fauquier County ( some consider it northern Va.) the season usually starts Mid-Nov., goes to the 1st of Jan.  in most counties.

two a day, every day, except Sun's.

for this yr. the rifle season for Fauquier, Prince William, & Fairfax Co.  is from mid-Nov. until Jan 3, 2009 for bucks or does.   then it's extended until March 28, 2009.   for antlerless deer only.

I guess we are not killing enough deer.

this yr. if you shoot a buck, as your 1st deer, the second has to be a doe, then you can shoot another buck, then a doe.  Or, you can shoot two does, then the three bucks.

no restrictions on bonus tags, as long as you  want to spend another $18.00 for two more.

I go into the internet, & print my license on line.  when you shoot a deer, you "tear" a notch in the license.   when you get home, call or go on line, & give the info. to a "computer", get a confirmation # to write it beside the notch on the license.

some people will not do  that.  seems like a few , once they get the deer home, "forget to call", so it's never recorded.   sure doesn't help the game commision, but people are people, & some don't care.

So if you want to know how many deer we can legally kill in the county I hunt( Fauquier ) , or Fairfax, or Prince William, count the # of days from Nov. 15th to March 28, 2009, except for Sun's, multiply it by two, & that's the answer.

the above dates don't include archery & muzzle loader seasons, which usually start  the 1st week of Oct.   so , you can hunt deer from Oct. to March 28, 2009 this yr. in some counties.

I usually hunt every day from mid-Nov. to Jan ( except Thanksgiving, & Christmas, keep the family happy) .  usually only  from around 10-11AM until 5Pm.  I see lots of deer.

I'm orginally from Pa. which is normally one buck, so to my relatives in Pa., I tell them , "eat your hearts out", with two weeks & one buck. Grin

Arkansas

3 deer limit with it being in any of these combinations...

2 bucks 1 doe
1 buck 2 doe
3 doe

some zones here allow 4 deer but the max on bucks is 2 and only 2 deer can be taken by a modern gun.

Also on mine, we have enough land to be givin doe permits which allows us to kill does that won't be counted towards out tags.  We got 10 of them for our big piece of land so I can kill 13 deer off of there this year if I wanted to.

Nebraska - total of 2 bucks.  In some areas of the state, you can obtain about as many anterless whitetail tags (2 does per permit that allows hunting during any open deer season) as you care to get.  After a given date (August 15???), all remaining anterless permits are available on a first come first served basis.  When all is said and done, there are still thousands of anterless permits that are not sold every year.

Alaska

At most you can take 6 deer in no antler restriction areas.  That assumes you have subsistence status ("rural" residents)

Limits vary by year and by area depending on populations (winterkill regulates the size of deer herds)

Most years islands are limited to 4 deer (no antler restriction) for "urban" residents.  Deer taken in bucks only areas must be part of the 4 deer limit

Most years mainland areas and some islands have 1 buck limits

Other islands have 2 buck limits in most years

Additional limits of deer can be taken by individuals with "proxies" for elderly or disabled people.

Here in Oregon we are so fortunate to be able to shoot 1 buck (with antler restrictions in many areas)...that is if you are lucky enough to draw a deer tag. Many areas less than 50% success in draw.
