Welcome to the forum. Please dont use capital letters except where needed. It is the forum equivalent of shouting. Accuracy should be just fine with that rifle. Weather resistance will be very good as long as you keep the metal oiled and wiped down after use.

I bought a 270 wsm w/ muzzle brake at the end of last year.  The brake is either on or off - not adjustable, per se.  Accuracy is everything you would expect from a Savage - excellent - better than I can shoot.  659 sounds a bit steep.  But, prices did go up at the first of the year.

I bought a 116flcsak in 30-06 back in the 90s and its easily my favorite rifle. The muzzle brake is simply an on off thing so you can shoot without the muzzle blast if someone is right beside you and is pretty effective at reducing recoil which is its pourpose. It's not a boss system ala browning for tuning barrel resonance. When I bought my 116 I had actually put my money down on a browning stainless stalker with the boss but no one could get me a new lefty for 12-18 months waiting on a new production run.I bought my savage, a sling ,a plastic hard case ,a set of leupold bases and rings, and a leupold varix 2 cheaper than the browning rifle alone and I had my hands on it in 2 weeks.I couldnt be happier with this set up and with several years of shooting and load development I routinely get 5 shot groups of 1/2" at 100yds from my out of the box rifle. These rifles are stainless not rustproof but minimal exterior maintenance is required. As far as the price thats about 150 more than I paid about 10 or 11 years ago. Fuel materials and shipping have probably tripled since then so thats probably about right. You can always check online at gunbroker and see if you can find one but be sure to remember FFL fees and shipping when pricing there. If you want a rifle with all the bells and whistles I think you made a good choice.

I have a 116 7mm with a muzzle break and a thumbhole stock that shot great, until last Elk season when a tree free on it and broke the stock.  I was a sweet shooting weapon, now if only someone here could help me find a new stock.

You may want to consider a blind magazine model as after-market stocks are much easier to get.  Also, check on line with Walmart. I was checking their prices last night and they run around $540.  As far as accuracy, Savages are very accurate. You will have to play with reloads (or good quality factory ammo) until you find the "sweet spot" for your rifle, but you should be able to easily get 1 MOA if you do  your part.

The brakes on the Savage rifles when open offer a little recoil reduction but greatly increase the noise

You must be shooting a short action?
The AK works great on my 06 springfield and .300RUM. savage claims 30% reduction in felt recoil.I'm a believer. 30% of 10# may not be noticeable but 30% reduction of 18# or 34# is indeed a big difference. You are definately right about the noise and muzzle blast though make sure your hat, safty glasses and earplugs are firmly in place.  Cool   If its psycological so be it.Whatever works Wink

Does any of you own the savage 116 ss  with brake on,  that has a little play on it, wheather  it is turn  on or off.  and it's rattling on muzzle..this is what happend with a model that i handled on gander mtn ,,,, had salesman call savage and they said to him by phone that is normal except if it will rattle when walking<<does not >>...they are bringing another gun on 7mm mag that i wanted to see if that on has the same loose brake..ofcourse i won't buy it like that...what do u think i should do Huh

I'd be more interested in a quality recoil pad than a muzzlebreak for a hunting rifle.  I've got a .30-06 with a pachmyer and it is a breeze to shoot.  Do you have to have a magnum?  What are you going to use it for?  Betcha a dollar that a .308, 7mm-08, .270 or .30-06 will do what you need, and you won't need the break to shoot them comfortably.

When you do.  Shoot 3 groups of 5 shots at 100 yards.  Email me the groups sizes and I'll enter you into the monthly email match we have in the competitive shooting sports section.  It's free, fun, and if you win I'll send you a certificate suitable for framing.  Click the link in my sig.
