Mechanic in need of repair!

A friend of mine told me that his son was practicing with a howler on the back porch a few nights back and had a lot of responses.  I went out there last night and it was perfectly calm, but nothing was answering my howls.  After a few minutes we started scanning around with the spot light and caught the eyes of a deer, but nothing else.  Did a couple of minutes of rabbit distress and started scanning again.  Found this little lady coming in about 150 yards out.  Watched her until she got to about 100 yards and she stopped.  Did a little lip squeaking and she starting hauling the mail straight towards us.  I didn't think she was going to stop, but a quick bark got her to, and bang flop.  After picking her up a coyote started barking.  Sound like it was few hundred yards away, across the river.  We talked back and forth for a while, but nothing ever showed.

One for today!

Out here we don't have the cross breading of wolves and coyotes.  So they are a little smaller.  The one pictured above was 30.5 lbs.

40 lbs. out east is a good sized dog, but saw one posted the other day that was 58 lbs.

i heard that about cross bred yotes around here. my buddy and i found a jaw bone that was too big for a yote and too small for a wolf it was right in the middle. dang game commission anyhow bringing them along with bobcats.

I weighed this coyote myself. 66lbs. My biggest to date and I shot it within a mile of the local record coyote of 72lbs (shot from plane)

Does a timber wolf count? Sorry no pic of the gun with this one. This female weighed in at 96lbs & came to a calf moose call. Shot in the neck @ 65yds with a 180gr Bearclaw .30-06 bullet. (we washed it lots for the pics) There is a gaping hole in the left shoulder.
that's awesome!

Broke the new Savage in today.  He sure was a big dog.  Shot him in some tall grass.  Didn't want to loose sight of where he went down so I walked out the 200 or so yards and drug him back to where I was calling from.  Then walked the 200 yards or so back to the Jeep to get my cellphone/camera.  Got back to where I left the yote and went to take the picture and the battery was too far gone to let me take the picture.  Ended up dragging it the rest of the way.  Arm was surely tired.  Charged up the phone just enough to take the picture.  I am going to guess around 40 lbs.

What catridge/caliber are you using?

Got this one Tuesday:

Rifle is a stock 16FLSS in 243 Win.  Shooting 62g Varmint Grenades at 3700 fps.  Had to lay prone in the iced over grass to conceal myself enough to start calling.  Dog showed up in about 45 seconds so I didn't have to freeze for too long.  Smiley  Bang/flop at 90 yards.

Got this one on Saturday:

Same rifle, same load but about 35 degrees warmer!  Dog was coming in hard then stopped to look at about 150 yards.  I started to let him come on in but just standing there made an awfully attractive target.  Same result: bang/flop.

Killed another one Saturday in 24" tall love grass and completely lost him.  Made the mistake of swinging over to another dog after the shot and lost track of where he went down.  My partner also killed two on Saturday so we wound up with 4 on the day.

What bipod are you using?  I'm looking for something exactly like that.
