My Savage ML2 arrived yesterday on the big brown truck. I had waited a while as I wanted the stainless, laminated thumbhole model. Today it was raining and my scope mount (deadnutz) hadn't arrived but..... I weighed out a few charges of AA 5744, took 2 milk jugs and headed out to my back yard, well 17 acres of back yard. I set the milk jugs up a wild 50 yards away, lined up the open sights and squeezed the accutrigger... milk jig leaped into the air. Reload, and second milk jug.... same result. I realise this is not a big deal but I was well pleased. The recoil is negligible and if the open sights are already on target. I am itching for mr UPS to bring me the scope mount so I can give it a real test tomorrow. I love this rifle, looks like the big brother of my 22 Hornet, same stock style. This is my 4th Savage..... don;t tell the wife.

Update: I am waiting on my medium height Dednutz scope mount, FYI the low mount doesn't work for a the Nikon ML scope.
I ran some bullets over a chrono today:
1987 fps using MMP HPH12 sabots and Hornady 250gr XTP bullets. Powder, 44gr AA 5744. This is a lot slower than Savage show. Could it be that the sabot, not the bullet was being read by the chrono? I was about 12 feet back from the chrono.

44 gr. 5744 = 2000 fps, give or take, with a 300 gr. sabot.

You can add about 75 fps to that for a 250 XTP.

If you want higher velocities with a 250 XTP, use VV N110 or SR4759.

I found a nice load of 41.0 gr A 5744 MMP orange sabot Win 209 Hornady .458 300 gr HP for just under 3/4" at 50 yds.

Boy what a nice rifle!
