I was looking at the Stevens 200 today in a store.  I want to get a couple of 223s for my boys as project guns.  I want to find ones with the older style staggered mag so that I can buy aftermarket stocks.  How do you tell (in-line vs stag.) without taking the stock off?  The guy behind the counter didn't have a clue and didn't like the idea of removing the stock.  Pics any of an in-line anyone?  I just got a stag mag Stevens back at X-mas so I know what they look like.

No pics here but you're in luck........Savage hasn't perfected the in line mag for the 223 based rounds yet.

soooooo...........................All Stevens 223's should be staggered mag   Grin

Measure the distance between the action screws or look down into the chamber at the magazine. The centerfire looks different.

The last few .473 Bolt Face Stevens Rifles that I got in at the shop have had the In-Line Feed Magazines. If you slid open the bolt you will notice that the guide fingers of the magazine sides are longer when compared to the Staggered Magazines. You will also notice a vertical Stop Plate at the back end of the new In-Line Feed Magazines. After looking at several Savage Actions you can easily see which is which without pulling the Stock.
