I am hosting an online turkey calling contest on another forum. Thought y'all might like to enter.
From the backcountrysportsmen.com (aka paddlezone.net):
"Welcome to the February 2009 Backcountry Sportsmen Forum Online Turkey Calling Contest! This is a contest to challenge and perhaps improve callers' ability to mimic the wily wild turkey. Contestants will compete by demonstrating skill with two calls of the wild turkey. One sound or call will be stipulated by the contest rules. The other will be chosen by the individual contestant. All entries and judgment will be made via the internet. Judgment will be based on hunting experience of judge(s) and comparison to a live recording of a wild turkey hen. Judges will be more interested in what is heard in the woods than perhaps what is known to be heard on the stage.
Our prize will be an award certificate; suitable for framing. While there is only one class of contestants, there will be one special recognition certificate available for the best performance by a contestant under fifteen years of age and one available for the best performance by a female contestant.
This month we will challenge ourselves to exactly reproduce the purr of a wild turkey hen as recorded here:
http://www.dnr.sc.gov/wildlife/turkey/sound/Purr%20-%20turkey%20sounds.mp3 The two calls required for those under fifteen may be any single call of the wild turkey.
Rules:
Entries will consist of a video of the contestant making series of calls matching the sound file listed in the contest announcement, one series calls of the contestant's choice, and the phrase "February 2009 Backcountry Sportsmen Forum Online Turkey Calling Contest hosted at backcountrysportsmen.com."
Entries will be uploaded to youtube and embedded in a post within this thread.
All entries must be made and submitted within the month of the contest.
You may use any non-living, non-electronic callers you choose with a limit of one caller per call. For example, you may use a pot to purr on and a tube to gobble; with both occurring in an entry video.
Judgment will be based on hunting experience of judge(s) and comparison to a live recording of a wild turkey hen. Where exact reproduction is not achieved, judge(s) will consider matching to the number of notes of the call, any peculiar quality, beat/rhythm and number of notes per second.
These matches are held on the HONOR SYSTEM. If you need any help or instruction, please do not hesitate to contact me via PM. Good luck! Have fun! "
