Looking at a .308 Savage 11 with Accutrigger and DBM. Looking to get some other barrels after geting the action worked on.
Requirements Ammo can be purchased. 6.3985247x57239409er Lapua AI whatever need not apply Potent enough for all animals in the US out to 300 yards One caliber able to punch paper at 1000 yards
Not a big shooter, so barrel life isn't a big concern. If find myself a place with big animals far away a Long action will be purchased.
Recommendations or anti-recommendations are appreciated, and links for reading are not a problem.

338 fed, 308, 7mm08, 260rem should be able to do everything you want.

These are good choices but I would throw out the 260 rem and replace it with a 22-250 or 223 barrel in case you wanted to hit the pdog towns

Keep your life simple and don't change boltheads.
If you do a lot of varmint shooting go with the 22-250 on the small side. If not go with the 243. On the big side go with 358 Winchester or 338 Federal.

I have a 223 semi, and i also think that the same boltface would be nice. I question going over the 308 because I think that the long action in a 7mm or 300 or 338 would be better in a long action.

243 for varmints, predators and pronghorn. 338 Federal for the biggest ungulates and bears and 7mm-08 for everything in between. With proper bullet selection there is nothing in the good ol' USA that these three won't handle.

I've not heard alot about the Federal. What kind of range does it have? I question it's power if it is still on a short action. How far can it reach out and kill something?

Read this: http://www.chuckhawks.com/338_federal_first_look.htmPlease keep in mind that this article is a few years old but the basic gist of the 338 Fed is there.

Just get yourself a .270WSM with drop mag and use 110gr V-Maxs for varmints and paper, 130gr Pro-Hunters for deer sized game and 150GR Barnes TTSX for anything else.

If you don't want to go above 308 then you only need 2 barrels - 22-250 and 308.
If you want to go heavier then get a 22-250 a 260 and a 338 Federal or 358 Win.

There will probably be a long action in the works too. Either in 7 or 300. Don't think I want to get into the 338 stuff. Might as well just buy a 50 bmg at that point.

the wsm's are real handy and definately can kill anything in north america, one action, 2 bolts, i'd go 300wsm and 22-250, go w/ quick release mounts on the scopes and do the switch in about 5 minutes. the wsm brass is not as popular as 308 and 22-250 but very available. if you need a 3rd chambering then go 308, allot of the bullets would interchange w/ the 300wsm, for that matter do a 30br and then all the bullets would interchange, but the brass for 30br is not so simple.
i would not own any long actions if i would of discovered wsm's before i'd invested so much money in them.
