Check out the Daily Bulletin on 6mmBR.com Rem has a new Military Modular sniper rifle with a quick change too four calibers with barrel length from 20 to 27 inches looks very much to me like our Savage Black Rifle

http://www.remingtonmilitary.com/msr.htmHere ya go. It's alot easier to just post a link so we dont have to search so much. Definately trying to compete with the Savage. Does Savage now make an AR style rifle(or buyout an AR company) to compete with their R-15? That'd be pretty sweet, then Charles wouldnt be the only one to have an AR with a Savage logo on it

I think the closest thing savage could compete with remington on this lineup is the 10bas-k. However the savage action cannot handle the 338 lapua magnum, 338 norma magnum, or the 300 winchester magnum.
However this seems to be more fit for military tactics than for civilian sniper purposes something that savage excells in. Just my 2 cents worth.

I do like the fact that the Rem. can handle the .338 Lapua. But I could barely afford to look at them let alone buy one.

The 338lm would be nice to shoot out of a savage action. However, I could not afford to shoot a rifle like that, much less build one.

I will be able to afford one, once my modeling career takes off. What's an average .338 LM round cost to reload?

That rifle was built for the new long range sniper trials for the military. I don't believe it was selected so now they are marketing it to others. I think it looks sweet.

can't handle a 300 mag? News to me and Savage, they have offered it for the last 40 plus years.

I suppose I should clarrify. I called Savage a while back and asked if they would ever offer the BAS-K rifles in 300WM or 338LP. The rep told me that right now their is no plans for their being a long action in their BAS-K lineup. Sorry about no being clear.

OK you guys know a **** of a lot more than I do , so here goes a dumb question. Can a AR15 style rifle be built using Savage parts? Now I'm not talking the BAS-K style I'm talking the Bushmaster, Armalite, Colt styles. If so where would one go for the parts. Just may be the ticket while I am recouping from back surgery. Oh almost forgot would like to build something in 30br. Sorry for the highjack, thanks

Nope, Savage doesn't make any semi-auto centerfires and never has.

i guess first and foremost, my question is WHY you'd want to build an AR type rifle from or by Savage. i've used both for years, both personally and professionally, and call me a little biased, but i can't find a single reason i'd want to own a Savage "black rifle." that's not to say ARs are bad, but Savage has made a name for itself with easily modifiable, relatively inexpensive, accurate bolt actions. it would be like Bushmaster making 1911s...freakin' WHY?
but since we're dreaming of wierd stuff, a Savage M1A would be fun. just saying.

I for one, hope savage doesn't do a ar style rifle. I don't doubht it would be good, however it may devert their attention away from the great toys they are making for us now. Besides that the ar market has a h*ll of a glut on it now, and will have for years. And one last thought, ... why would savage want to lower their standards to the level of remington? blue

First off I was actually thinking about a conversion for the BAS-K style. You ask why would they want too #1 reason $$$$$ black guns are selling like crazy, stores can't keep them in stock,it is all the rage today. Imagine a Savage that shoots like a Bushmaster Predator for about half the cost, do you think they could make enough of them to keep up with sales. I don't. Don't get me wrong I have 6 Savages in the safe and 1 on the way(specail order 7mm)and right now am thing about doing a custom 22 hornet or a 6BR. I am about to have a lot of time on my hands because of an upcoming lumbar surgery so I will probably be asking a lot of questions in the coming weeks. Then I need to convince the wife that it will be good therapy.
