I have been working my way to this project for over a year now. Northland Shooters Supply will be introducing their full line of Rem-Age Barrels. This package is a McGowen Stainless Prem. Match Grade Barrel that is completely finished and fully chambered with our new NSS Rem-Age Barrel Nut. As the name Rem-Age implies these barrels are a hybrid combination of the Remington Model 700 Rifles and a Savage style Barrel Nut mounted barrel. I have the first ones ordered at this time. The machine shop will have the Rem-Age Barrel Nuts done by the end of this month. I am planning on doing a 6.5-06 on my old Remington Model 700 as the first of the New Breed.

Pricing on the Rem-Age Pre-Fit Barrels will be the same as the Savage Pre-Fit McGowen Barrels. The Rem-Age Barrel Nuts are priced at $28.00 with a barrel order or $35.00 by themselves. The Rem-Age Barrel Nuts are designed to work with the Savage Barrel Nut Wrenches so no difficult to find tools are required.

Just to clarify, using the Rem-Age system, swapping your Remington 700 Barrels will no longer require a Gunsmith any more than a Savage rifle does. I would like some input from you Remington 700 shooters as to what calibers you are most interested in as well as what calibers you may want to order along with my initial stocking order.

Fantastic move Jim.

As soon as I recover from my Savage 338 Edge build, I'll be ordering a couple WSM's.

That with a 10 round Kwik-Klip, my old Rem will be a tactical style slayer. Grin

Outlawkyote,
I have not seen one yet but I have heard of several shooters that had a Savage Bolt Head installed on their Remington Bolts. They used the same pinning system as Savage and thus created a semi floating removable/interchangeable bolt head to assist with alignment issues. No idea of where to send you for this modification but with that flexability you should be even closer to a shooter friendly Model 700.

Northlander,

This is a great service you are offering.

Years ago went a custom route to accomplish this same thing.  Works great.  But your system with economical production and delivery will be a much better route.

Of course, the first barrel should be a 30-inch varmint-contour 220 Swift.

Then maybe a 475 built on an improved 375 RUM case.

Your thoughts on holding the recoil lug in proper position during barrel changing ?

Hammer,
two points in regards to the alignment of the recoil lug. I am also talking with my machine shop on this issue for an alignment tool. Most importantly because a Remington Recoil Lug is not pinned or uses no alignment point it can actually float around as you are tightening everything up as long as you have it close when you are almost done. Use a non marring dead blow hammer and you can tap the recoil lug into the correct location. It is not pinned or held by an alignment pin so it is free to move enough to be placed where it belongs.

Nice!!!

A new hole to put my money in!!! Wink

I'ld be interested in a non chambered 6mm in an 8" twist 28" magnum contour once the funds allow....with the nut outfit...a trued remmy without enlarged receiver threads will make a really nice rifle.

Have you got an estimate on wait period yet?

This needs to be posted on several other forums that I'm aware of also.....

Apache,
I can get you a finished but unchambered Barrel and one of the Rem-Age Barrel Nuts with no problem. Delivery should be right around 8 weeks from order placement.

As far as having this posted on other websites - I can not do that myself as it falls under the advertising issue. You however are free to post this anywhere you would like because you are merely advising other shooters and not trying to advertise a product that you sell.

Can I do this to my 721 as well?  Thinking of a 338-06 as the bolt face would match the existing 270.

This is a great idea! It's a lot easier to find used Rem actions and parts sometimes.

As far as positionaing the recoil lug, it would probably be worth just buying one of these.

If Remingtons are available now...

Can Montana 1999s, Ruger 77s, Sakos, and Weatherby Mark Vs be far behind ?

Have used the barrel nut system on all the above except the Ruger.

Here's the deal guys, as long as a regular Remington 700 Barrel will fit the Action, 721, 788, Model 7 or whatever, then these Rem-Age Barrels will work. I can get them in almost any length or contour. Hopefully I will have or can order everything your heart desires.

Still need to have a suggested caliber list. Should I just go with what I stock for the Savage Barrels? Any specials? I am going to be able to get the 6.5-06 shortly.

The obvious cartridges are the 222 Remington Magnum, 219 Donaldson Wasp, 220 Swift, the 9.3 x 62, and the 400 Whelen.

But if your interested in the less obvious...

Recommend some of the same good sellers that you have for the Savage target and varmint rifles.

Additionally...

17 Remington (or Fireball)
22-6mm Remington (aka 224 TTH)
6mm BR
6mm Remington
257 Roberts
260 Remington
7 x 57
280 Improved (which ever one Nosler is loading for)
338-06

Think the above are no longer factory available but still have the interests  of gun cranks.

28-inches long
12-inch twist

Will call you soon.
