synthetic stainless makes a nice all weather rifle. Thats what I have anyway, and I'm not afraid to haul it around in the worst weather.

Good used, if you kind find them. Only difference between Powder rifle and smokeless Savage, is the clean up time, and the propellant.
I can shoot 50 rounds through a rifle using Pyrodex for about $34.00 worth of powder ( .68 cents per round), or I can shoot about 166 rounds through my Savage
smokeless for about $22.00 ( .13 cents per round). Plus a big difference in Velocity, based on 100 grains.
The sabot and the primer, and the bullet, are all the same.
I shoot mine year around and clean my Savage ML II about 4 times a year, at about 5 minutes per cleaning. With pyrodex, I had to clean EVERY time I went to the range, at about 20 to 30 mintues per cleaning.

The time saved and the difference in the powder cost, will pay for the difference in the cost of the rifle in less than a year.
To me, there is NO CHOICE.

The standard style stock non-thumbhole) stainless / laminate ML-II new is an easy choice-- as far as I'm concerned, anyway.

I agree! You will not regret the synthetic stainless version.
