I got an e-mail from Hornady a few weeks ago that hinted about a new product to be released sometime in November. The e-mail suggested that it would be the greatest innovation since smokeless powder. Well today Hornady unveiled the new product, "Superformance" ammunition. Basically it offers light magnum performance without an increase in recoil. Hornady has figured out a way to combine two of their "magic" powders, to give an increase velocity without increasing the size of the powder charge over a standard load. Just to give you an example, they claim that their new .300 Winchester "Superformance" load is 150-200 fps faster than a normal cartridge with no increase in pressure or recoil. They also claim that it only loses 18 feet per second, per inch when the barrel is shortened instead of the usual 50-60 feet per second. I will reserve judgement until I can get my hands on it and shoot it through a crono. However, if what they claim is true, then it really is a huge leap foward in factory ammo. Hornady has not yet updated their website, but you can read an article and watch a short video at americanrifleman "dot" com or americanhunter "dot" org.

I'd be more interested in the powder, personally...

Isn't that basically the same as the heavy/light magnum loads they have now?  I shoot the heavy magnums in mine and can't really tell a difference in recoil and they are about 150fps faster than standard loads.

I'd be more interested in the powder, personally...
It will be a long time until we can get our hands on that stuff.  Sad
