I am personal friends w/ the President of North State Shooting Club that shoots at Camp Butner, NC National Guard 600/ 1000yd range. The F Class Nationals were held here this year last month. Here is what I am able to set up if anyone has any interest. Around the weekend of April 11-12 We have a 600yd. long range match and a bbq (Eastern NC style- Vinegar based, hush puppies, slaw, beans, etc.) catered in one of the best local places in the area. I could not get a "Savage- Brotherhood of the Barrel Nut" only shoot as every weekend is booked for the year, However, heres what I can work out: Saturday 600yd Match- 3 relays, 22 shots each. 2 sighters and 20 for score in 22 min. 2 individual matches and 1  4 man team match. BBQ after that. If you guys would want to set up pop up outdoor tents and tables ( I have a few 6' tables that I could bring, we could do a swap meet, a meet and greet, and hang out and talk savage and lie about our scores and our shots of the day! I am open for ideas here. This is a pretty laid back club- safety is very strictly enforced- however, prob. about 1/3 of the rifles on a typical match are Savages (with us there it will be like 80%!) and its a real "shoot wha cha brung" type atmosphere. Everyone is happy to have you there learning the sport.

Here is what I am thinking:
- The Match- including the BBQ is $35.00- (It was $35 last year and my friend says it should be close to that this year)
- We could all throw in a little $ and do our own Savage Guys Award and if I got motivated, I could have something made up for us to take home to remember the event by and have the winner, 2nd and 3rd. take home something.
- I have a connection with an inexpensive hotel ( Red Roof Inn- 5 min away from Camp Butner. There are several hotels at that exit off I85 just north of Durham, NC and south of Oxford, NC.) Rooms ends up being $58 w/ taxes or so. We usually get a 2 bed room and split a room, go up the nite b4 (Friday nite) as registration is at 7am Sat. in the pits. I could post that and a room code so the owner gives you the "Savageboy deal".
- If we wanted to do a swap meet, show off our other Savage Builds, buy, sell swap all manner of firearms related items, I have that worked out with NSSC so that we could do that w/ tents and tables.

This is outdoors and there is no shelter other than in the pits from the weather. We can all believe for and pray for great weather- I cannot control that although I can do what I said earlier and do my part w/ who controls the weather.

We can accomodate alot of shooters, so I don't anticipate running out of room. April is a beautiful time of year in NC. The mirage shouldn't be too bad like it is in July / Aug. Butner is a fun range to shoot.

Below is the link to our shooting club. The pic on the home page shows Charles Ballard (Kneeling on the right front- won F class nationals this year).  So, E-MAIL (don't IM) me if you would be interested in doing this AND with any ideas that you might have to make this a great event. I will plan it and work out all the details with NSSC. I can only ask for stuff with the club, but I am open to suggestions. So this is a feeler to see about how many guys would be interested. If you mail, I could start a mailing list and group e-mail you any details as well as on this thread. My e-mail is: barto1@ltdkate.com

I am going to be at this- as this is a great match to shoot in and great for someone that has never shot in one before as it is just at 600yds the whole time. The bbq is great and Nik (pres. of NSSC) is going to work with me to accomodate us and anything we decide we want to do after- swap meet, meet and greet, our individual awards, etc. I am open for ideas

Sounds great! darn shame it's not in my neck of the woods. Looks like the perfect venue to get started in long range competition.

Hey Jethro- Well, being that we are just north of Durham, they place that NSSC gets is typically get is eastern. Its funny, even though they are all different- even SC's mustard based, I like them all in their own way.

Thin red vinagar is my choice for pulled pork BBQ. Mustard is ok but for Ed; it's Red.

Well Ed- Come on down? All Ya'll Yankees are welcome. We'd love to have you come- Dolomite Supa- Tenn. guys can come too. Tammons- Fla. isn't too far either. I think this will be fun, I will start a mailing list as we get closer, we can communicate, etc. Also, PM me any ideas.  I do have to work around the match and the club rules, but I know the pres. pretty good and he is pretty flexible. I spoke to him regarding this and he was cool with it. I just have to run anything else other than what I have mentioned already by him.

I'd love to! Perhaps this should be moved to the Savage Shoot Outs board?
