I've been lurking for awhile & it was about time to pony up the $12 bucks considering I"m getting ready to start ordering parts. This will be my first ever build(me doing most if not all the work). I'm building this to pull double duty for punching paper(1000yds) & hunting. If anyone sees any red flags or something I'm forgetting please speak up with suggestions. I wanted to see what you guys think. So here goes the list

.260 REM (yes I am a hand loader)
Blued action .473 bolt face
Headspace Gauge
Action wrench
Barrel wrench
Shilen replacement barrel-bead blasted-heavy sporter or varmint (Anyone know what the contour of a Rem Sendaro barrel is?)
stock looking at the Manners MCS-T
CDI bottom metal W/Accuracy International LTD Mags

Instead of the Manners stock and CDI bottom metal you could check out the MP-MOD from McRees Precision, It comes ready to accept the AI magazines and is a modular system that has several options. I'm thinking you could save some money going this route.

While you are there you can get one of the barrel nut wrenches they sell it's a great wrench at a great price.  The things I see missing from your list are an aftermarket recoil lug and trigger. It sounds like a fun build !

I will look into that...thanks. I forgot to list the recoil lug & would it be a bad idea to use the accutrigger?

McGowan's contouring page lists dimensions for a Sendero barrel.  http://www.mcgowenbarrel.com/contouring.htm

I second the Mcrees barrel nut wrench.

Northlander's recoil lug looks like a piece of art.

I'm happy with the standard trigger but I don't care for a trigger pull under 3 1/4 pounds.  But I think I'm in the minority there.  The accu-trigger is well thought of.

Debating between a .260 and .308 for my next Savage build.  I like the ballistics of the .260 but cheap brass isn't out there and I already have plenty of good .308 brass.

I have a Tikka T3 varmint in .308 that I love. Like you I like the specs on the .260 so I figured why not.

I'm just not a big fan of the Accu-Trigger, a lot of folks like them though, you would just have to try it and see. My current favorite trigger is the Rifle Basix SAV-2 but I'm going to try one of the SSS triggers next they are very well thought of here. I really wish Jewel would make one for the Savage. I like my hunting triggers to break between 1.5 and 2 lbs.

No, I don't have a .260 at this time but I really like the ballistics, I consider it to be a modern version of the old 6.5x55 Swede sort of like the 7mm/08 is a modern counterpart to the 7x57. I have had a long love affair with the .270 Winchester and for years I have wanted to build a short action version that would be the ballistic equal of it, for a long time I looked at the AI version of the .260 but ended up with a 6.5-.284 instead it shoots great but really needs a long action. I now have what I think is the best candidate to match the old .270, a .270/08 AI. My chronograph is down right now so I don't have the actual numbers but I'm optimistic.
