I would first like to think everyone for there input on the 10 FCP. Now I need another gun in 223 (or other light recoil) for my little shooters so weight will be a factor the weight of the 10 is just a little much. I have been looking at the Stevens 200 and also the savage 11 FCXP3 and also another model 11 do not know the exact one it has the accu stock and trigger. I would like some input as to which gun and also I will need to be able to find a stock that I would be cut down to fit them. I would also like input about the added safety of the accu trigger and the disadvantage of the sports weight barrel versus the varmint barrel. They are not new to shooting just would like to move away from the 22 to keep from moving everything, the backstop stays put and the tables are moved.

If you just planning on buying the rifle straight out without intending to upgrade the trigger, go ahead and get an accutrigger model. You can adjust the wheight from 2-6 pounds (i think). I would get a synthetic stock to cut down and modify, but thats just me. The sporter wheight is going to be light but will heat up quicker wheras the varmint countour will take more shots to heat up. Varmint and bull contours tend to be more accurate. Other members on the site can fill in the gaps. The biggest disadvantage to varmint contour barrels is the added wheight.

I just bought a Stevens 200 for my kid.  It should be in tomorrow.  I decided to go with the Stevens because it's a cheap platform to start with and I can upgrade as funds become available.  I got his in 25-06, again, because that's what was available.  I also bought a used wood stock to cut down.  The reason I chose wood over cutting down the synthetic is that I don't know what the construction of the synthetic is. I just envision it being hollow with probably some webbing in it to give it rigidity.  So I just went with the wood to be on the safe side. Plus as he grows up he can put the full sized synthetic back on it.

I think the 25-06 is gonna be a little heavy for him right now so I have a 260 Rem barrel on the way as well and I will get a 22-250 if the 260 is too much.

Kinda bums me out cause the 260 barrel was supposed to be for me. LOL

If it were me I would look at the youth models and go from there. As they grow you can always upgrade to a full size stock and still have a great rifle.I am pretty sure they come in most calibers and the future barrel swapping would be the same as now.

The only youth gun I see listed on the savage web site is a 22. Do you know of a model that is not listed on the web site?

Go back into the gun finder, I believe any model with a Y in the model number is a youth model. Do a search here there is a list of letter designations for all the models, it used to be on the web site but I haven't found it yet.

The savage site is listing

11FYCAK
10GYXP3
11FYCXP3
11FYXP3

And I wouldn't think that it would be too hard to get any savage gun and get a youth stock for it and just change it.
