I finally got my 10FCP McMillan build up and running  Smiley

So decided I'd get the old 10FP converted to a .223, and right off the bat ran into a problem.

The tail on the bolt doesn't let the firing pin assy in far enough. It hits the collar. The tail piece looks like it has a good 1/8" longer behind the retaining pin hole. other difference is it has a small slot milled in the ejector port side of the tail, not sure if that means anything or not.

Is this a matter of adjusting the protrusion of the firing pin? or is it a bigger difference between the firing pins assy's?

I"ll get some pics up later  Smiley thanks in advance

There are two different lengths for the heads, long action and short action.

What you have is a long action bolt head.  I would hold onto it and get another in the short version since the long action 223 bolt heads are no longer made.

You also can grind off the end of the long action head to fit the small action bolt if you want to but it would be sad to see the long action head be lost....

I am pretty sure I have an extra one in my parts box and would trade you if you want. Just let me know.

Here's a pic

About 3/16" longer overall, about 3/32" at each end.

They can't be too rare,  Wink these are all Brownells lists, actually all their parts are for 3 digit models. http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=13007&title=BOLT+HEAD%2c+BLACK%2c+RIGHT+HAND&s=31336#31336

Why wouldn't they make the bolt heads the same, and just make 2 different length bolt bodies  Huh
How about magazine boxes? they the same for long or short?

Original rifle is a short action 10FP-LE1 in .308.

Didn't think anything of it when I placed the order at Brownells because they list everything for 110 series, and nothing for 2 digit series.

Yup, you have a long action bolt head with baffle for short cartridges used in long actions.

Send me a PM if you want to swap the long action bolt head and baffle for a short action 223 bolt head and baffle.
