Try 24.7 TAC with the Sierra MK's. Fantastic load. Especially for long range!

I shot today with 8208 XBR powder, loaded 50 rounds, 5 sets V-Max loads, and 5 sets of Berger Varmit loads.

I will say ONE tenth of a grain makes a big difference with this gun!

OK, first, I will post pictures of the target tomorrow morning.

My OEM, non bedded, VLP 9 twist LOVED 25.6grns of XBR with the 53 grn V-Max, will post the COAL tommorow also.
CCI 450 primers.

I tried 52 grn Berger Varmits and they were very close as well, same load-within .3 grns compared to the V-Max loads! I will have to play just a "little" bit with them to get them perfect, +.1 or -.1 grain plus try different COAL's! But it's not gonna take much!

I had my loads too hot in previous test, all previous test were 26.0+ grns! All test today started at 25.0 grains!

I already had a 52grain "Target" Berger shooting less than .200, tight cloverleaf! The gun also love 69 grn SMK's!

I have a Rifle Basix trigger set to 5 oz's, this is the only modification. I guess I am going to bed the gun now!

My next project, fine tuning my 22-250 with the same bullets!

PS: I am having a blast shooting this 223, I bought it just to get trigger time!

It's a fun gun to shoot and very accurate. I have tried it out to 200yds, I have a 243 & 22-250 to go further if I need them!

I had a great IRAQ ARMY vet shooting with me (just came back this year) using his AR15-223.

"GREAT GUY", but he was laughing at my gun. When I picked up my target, he wanted me to shoot his gun to see what I could do with it! I got a pretty good kick out of this!

BUT AGAIN, he was a great guy! We ended up having a long talk after shooting! He was totally against a long rifle at first, now he is thinking about getting one! All I said, Just put one bullet in the right place and you don't need 29 more! His main future plans are varmit shooting! IMO, the VLP 9 twist is the way to go!

We talked about the 7 twist, but again, I personally feel this is too much for Varmit shooting. If you wanna put your opinion in on the 7 twist, I will pass it on to him!

75gr Hornady HPBT
24.0gr Varget
Lapua Brass
CCI-400

2875fps from a 26" 9 twist 12FV barrel, works great on steel out to 650yd.

Wondering if my barrel is one of the lucky 9 twist ones that stabilizes a 75gr A-Max...

Here are the two pictures of my targets shooting 53 grn V-Max's and 52 grn Berger Varmits.

As I stated, I have to tweak the Bergers "just" a little, but I am going to leave the V-Max load as is!

PS: I put a Rifle Basix trigger on the gun, this is the only thing that I have done to the gun.

I might go ahead and bed the rifle, it's improved all my other rifles.

OR would "you" leave it alone since it's shooting as good as it is?

The questions: BED or DO NOT bed???

24 gr. IMR 4895-60 gr.sierra varminter hp, cci small rifle primer.
Out of 2 different rifles, 1 is a 20" model 10 LE the other is a model 12vss 26" barrel, they both shoot right at .25 on a good day and .19-.2 on a great day. 5 shots @ 100.

Thanks for posting this one....shoots outstanding in my Axis 223 with ADI brass, Wolf primers, and a 60gr Nosler Ballistic Tip.

Savage F/TR precision chamber and super duper accu trigger (red) 30" barrel, 1:7 twist

69 gr. Sierra Match Kings 25.0 Varget best of all. Same for 69 gr Nosler Custom Competition. Raggy hole at 100 for both.

73 gr Berger BT NOT VLD 22.6 Varget. At 200 yards, 5 shot groups averaging a bit over 1/2" overall and several less than .4"

55 gr or less weight cannot be used. Bullets either fly to miss the whole board or disintegrate so no input.

Above with either Lapua, RWS or Hornady brass, all turned and various but uniform to the case neck bushings depending on the brass.

CCI 400 primers

Good to see this post back again. Most rifles in published reloading manuals for the 223 are 1-12 twist for bolt actions....Since the Savage is 1-9, results from shooters using Savage rifles is sometimes a better indicator of real performance with different powder-bullet combinations. Going to work with XBR 8208 today.

Just got back from shooting a sort-of duplicate of "BarrelBurner's" XBR8208 load in his Model 12. It's a keeper in my Axis rifle also. Did not know the brass he used and I used Wolf primers rather than CCI.. The good news is that this load impacts on the same vertical line above the target dot as ADI 69gr Factory ammunition and the 60gr Nosler load with IMR4895 posted by "rjtfroggy"....1" higher than both but on the same vertical plane.
Bottom line is that 3 three shot groups averaged less than .40" and no windage correction was necessary. Works for me. Thanks for posting those loads guys!

Glad to hear it worked out well for you. I use that load in Speer and Lapua brass both. I've used Wolf and Tula primers with it too. I didn't see any noticeable difference with them but I have a lot of cci so that's the flavor of the day. If it's really a hot day I back it down to 24.0grs

Since I feed several I use a general recipe to fit all. 25 varget under 55 gr vmax. 24 varget under 69 SMK. All with LC case and 400 primer. All set to ar mag length.

thanks!

Unfortunately it won't fit in an AR mag, but even stuffed it shoots really well.

Lemme know how it does in your gear-it appears to work pretty well in other rifles.
