Hey folks,

I'm looking for a good starting point. I'm picking up a new 6mmBR tomorrow. It's a Savage Dual port LRPV. Some of you must have this rifle and already have a couple of pet loads that she'll like. I'm an experienced reloader so rest assured I'll start low and work my way toward anything that you may tell me.

I've got a Forster neck die & Seater, Berger 68gr. FB Match bullets along with a good selection of powders. I just need your help with load recommendations and bullet suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks guys. I've have read through that material a couple of times. Very informative.

I was hoping that someone may have tried some of those loads (and possibly others) and they'd be willing to share there experieces with me.

I appreciate your help,

Flur

Pick up some Hodgdon Varget. One of the more friendlier 6BR powders I've tried. IIRC 31.5grs Varget under a 58gr V-Max fired by a CCI 400 is my load. For paper punching out to 300 meters (farthest my local range goes) it does a great job. I believe this is the lower accuracy node for my barrel. I have yet to find the upper one. Probably won't try since this one does so well.

Is it a 12 twist or an 8 twist? I have the same rifle with the 8 twist, and she loves 30 grains of varget in back of Berger 105 Vld's. That combo won me Shooter of the Year in the Factory Division, 600 yard BR Competition, at our local shooting range last year.

Delaware, Congrats on the win! Mine is a 12 twist. All of the ranges near me are 200 yds or less so I went with the slower twist barrel.

Drybean & Boots, Thanks. I've got some H322 & Varget but I'll need to go bullet shopping! This is my first 6mm rifle.

What are you folks using for optics? I've got a Monarch 8-32 waiting in the closet. Would I be better off a straight 36x scope?

I have a 6mmBR with a 1 in 12 twist. It loves the Berger 80 grain varmint bullets. 30.5 grains of Varget, CCI BR primers, and Lapua brass. Outstanding accuracy. I've only shot at 100 yards so far, but have aspirations of longer ranges. At least 300 yards.

N135 is a good powder with the 70-80s in the 6BR. In fact, I think it was made for the 6BR. I would try both N135 and N133 and see what she likes. I bet one with give great groups. The new Accurate LT-32 might work well also. Luck your your new rig. Tim

My 6mmBR 1:10 twist McGowen 26" varmint barrel likes 32.6 gr IMR 8208XBR with 65 gr VMAX .010" off the lands. It was the first load I worked up with the new barrel. Varget was a close second, but not as accurate. Don't do much paper punching but this load makes me smile all day long in a good PD town.

Mine is also an 8" twist. Actually I believe it was you drybean that got me steered towards the 6BR in the first place, and loading it with Varget. Thanks again.

I have a McGowen 14 3/4" 1 in 8 pistol barrel on my Striker. I am still breaking in the barrel using the one shot/clean procedure but after 16 shots the gun appears to be a 1/4" pistol. I am using loads from my Savage Target Rifle which is a 2" gun at 500 yds. 30 grs. of Varget with CCI 450 primer and Sierra 107 gr. bullets is the load.
