Hi folks!
I'm currently working on an savage target action what gonna be the heart of a tubegun project i'm running. I thought to to share that work since some of you might find that interesting ;)
So here we go...
First thing was cutting off the bolt knob, filing the remained stub round to accept a thread and then turning a new bolt knob. The one I made turned out to be pretty massive somehow, but I kinda like it and since i've got the thread on the "bolt knob stub" I can turn any shape I like anytime i like...

Sorry for the bad pictures, mobile phone, you know... but you probably already guessed that..
The next steps will be a bolt lift kit. However I'm planning to use a small diameter ball thrust bearing instead of just one ball, but I will do the "conventional" 357mag case type system first to be able to tell you if using thrust ball bearings would improve characteristics any better.
I also plan on giving the accutrigger "real" 2 stage trigger chraracteristics by adding a new trigger lever that will replace the old one, but it still will have the accutrigger safety function. I somehow like the characteristics of 2 stage triggers more than 1 stage triggers, can't exactly tell why, it just feels more comfortable to me.
I also plan on cut trough the bottom of the action for mag feedind. I know some people might hate me for that, but I got several reasons for modifying a single shot action.
I plan on using either AICS or AW magazines I will cut the breach as tight as possible, perfectly fitting the mag to keep level of stiffness loss at a minimum.
However, I'm having a hard time to make a decision which one to use, AICS would be more compact overall, AW would be longer but also allow ~1/10" more OAL.
Whats your opinion? Both are center feed, however AICS mags are staggered. I don't care about mag width, in fact I think AICS mags would fit overall design better then the super thin AW mags, but 0,1" OAL gain might be a good reason for choosing AW mags... ???
regards
