Finally found some powder to work with. Took it out last night. Worked up some loads they look promising.

This is a max load of h1000. But the bolt was a bit hard to open with. Two of the brass.
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/24/puhyve3y.jpg this is a half grain lighter and sucks.

This was the best group with 4831. I think I could work with it but it is a light load. I would like to work with the h1000 load more it would have a lot more speed. All the cases that were hard to eject were the same head stamp. I think I need to pick up some good Mach brass and see what happens. I have found some hornday match brass locally. Anyone have any experience with it?http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/24/ynyqy8ev.jpg

Hornandys brass for the 6.5 creedmoor is pretty great. Some people seem to have issues with loose primer pockets but I have not. Thats the only cartridge I've used hornandys brass.

Well the hornday brass is gone. I found some nosler brass I have not had a chance to pick it up yet. I also got three pounds of reloader 22 yesterday to see if I like it better than the h1000. I will be loading some more and headed to the range this weekend.

Little update. Got out and did some testing. I am getting some good groups with the reloader 22. I can get a group under a dime at 100 yards kind of. Here is the story. I can get a three shot group under a dime. But I always shoot four shot groups. I am having a big issue with the could bore shot. It is about six inches high. I just noticed this because I normally shoot three factory rounds to foul the barrel when I shoot. So this was the first time I have shot from a cold bore to get groups. I was told that this could be caused by stress on the barrel so I made sure that it was floated the whole was. It is. I also was told this could be from not having the accustock properly torqued. So I have disassembled and re torqued it but have not made it back to the range to try it out. Also got my hands on some 208 amax's that I am going to give a go and see what happens. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/12/4usyqy3a.jpg and real exciting news after a 9 month wait I finally got my tax stamp back and picked up my suppressor this morninghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/12/u4ety3ej.jpg

Nice!

Your cold bore shot..is this on a clean barrel or dirty?
You mentioned accustock so no bedding?
Does this repeat like that? Seems like the action is shifting. Recoil lug making contact with its mating surface? Maybe put some putty in there and spray the lug with wd or gun oil and assemble then disassemble and verify full contact.

you also say you are fouling the barrel with factory loads. Try fouling with the load you are shooting for group. Sometimes two different loads won't mix and that can cause problems with your first or maybe even second shot after the different load was shot

This was the first time I have noticed this happening. It was shot with a Fouled barrel I did not clean it before I went back to the range. So it had about 12 of those loads down the tube already. It is a factory accustock

BAJeep,
I know I'm a little late to the game, I just started following your thread. I too have been doing 300WM load development for a savage 110 with accutrigger (my first savage as well) that I picked up in December. I was also planning on upgrading from the factory barrel, until I found out what these savage barrels can be capable of with the right load.
My gun didn't like VLDs because of the magazine length restriction. But "THE LOAD" I found for my gun was with the Berger 185gr Classic Hunter with 73gr of H4831. This load produced a 5 shot .322" group at 100yds for me out of a bone stock savage. The classic hunter bullets aren't as sensitive to seating depth as the vlds because of the ogive, but still has a BC of .547 compared to the the 185 VLD BC of .549. I haven't ran it through a chronograph yet, but it should be going 2900-2950fps.
Hope this helps-
Leo
P.S. And my COAL is 3.4 and it is next sized brass

I just got back from the range. It appears that taking gun out of the stock and torquing it in there the way that savage said to made a difference. I loaded the 208 amax's and got a lot better results with the cold bore. I still need to do more load work but it went from being six inches off with a cold bore to being right at a inch and putting the other three in pretty much the same whole. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/13/8uqy7e4e.jpg

That oughta work nicely!
My Savage 300WM prefers the 180gr Sierra spitzers, without the boat tail. It will put the first 5 in a dime at 100 yards every time, from a cold start or a warm start. I couldn't get the VLD's to shoot at all, and haven't laid my hands on the Classic Hunters yet. IMR4831 is all I use in it. I avoid using the RL series of powders in all my rifles due to their temperature instability issues.

Do you get good temp stability with IMR4831? I specifically worked up a load with H4831 because it is supposed to be an "extreme" powder. Have you tested the stability of the IMR at all?
Just curious-
Leo

Bringing this back. I just got the rifle back after having benchmark barrels put a new tube on it. Now it's time to start all over with load development!http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/10/01/bc8d7fa9db7685b2bec6bbfd71b6f4a0.jpg

This thread is all over the place, but mostly a reloading/load development thread. Moving it and Closing it down.
