You are starting off with brand new Lapua brass, so you have a lot going for you from the get go, you will have plenty of warning signs, so at .5gr increments you have nothing to worry about, I predict you will end up with a full case and have to move to a faster powder, these come to mind from slower to faster, H414, Win760, H380, I would also give CFE 223 a try then there is tried and trued Varget.

Let's hope I don't fill the case up! Of those you listed, I have only Varget, plus a couple pounds of IMR-4350. It's quite a jump up the chart from the 4350 to the Varget, but I do have a lot of powder as trading stock that I could turn into a usable powder. I'll figure it out once I start shooting it.

If you end up using Varget you will be in they area of 45gr +,

Well I did a test run sizing 6.5x55 Lapua through a set of RCBS 243 dies, and am not impressed with the results. In order to size the neck all the way to the shoulder juncture, the 243 dies have also started to reduce the case diameter. I stopped during setup of the first round with about .100 of neck left to resize. The case diameter is being reduced from .275 to .270, leaving a .005 step in the case wall about .275 from the case head. Mission aborted for now until I come up with some better suggestions.

By the shoulder, It looks like you would need a 243 AI, you could try using a 6BR die,

I haven't found a 243 AI set yet, but I do have a 6mm Remington die set here that I have no use for, I think I'll take it to work tonight and turn all but the last 7 or 8 threads off of it. That should allow me to neck size without altering the case walls. I held off on buying the 6BR set because I figured I could just use the 243 dies since they worked for you, so much for that idea. For now I'll shorten the 6mm die, and since my chamber will be cut with a 6BR reamer run an additional .580 or so deep, I'll order a 6BR sizing die. That should get me all set up for sizing. I've got a set of Hornady new dimension dies in 6.5x55, I want to see if I can remove the bushing from the seating die and replace it with one for a 6mm/243. If that'll work, I'm set for bullet seating too.

Actually being a wildcat, you will only really know what the final chambering, will look like after you have fired it, sort of like an AI, so I would just get it close and basically get it to chamber, see how it comes out then you will see and know, what you are dealing with.

Everything on that 22 Eroder is ready to go, and that Lapua brass what's not to love, I found that I can seat the bullets out a lot further out than I thought, so I am going to pull the loaded rounds that I already made, so I can add more powder, someday hopefully this white stuff will go away, once again can't thank Jim @ Apache gun works for his attention to detail, He is evil though, he talked me into another wildcat I didn't even know existed, and by the time I hung up the phone with him, I don't even know how I got along from day to day with out it, I will start a new thread or opening post about it later on, hint it goes Boom really big Boom, I even came up with a cool name for it.

Would like to add the brass is 6.5X55 Swede, Lapua has them for $70.00 per 100ct, that is close to the price of run of the mill brass, the dies that you use are a Gutted 6.5X55 Swede for full length sizing, and a set of 22BR for neck sizing and shoulder "they share the same shoulder angle" and use the same bullet seater that comes with the 6BR set, you see easy as pie, now have at it.

Dean

PS: What have we learned here today, we have learned that you can have awesome wildcats, without going broke or turning it into a two year project, let alone all the grief and aggravation that usually comes with the Territory.

You mean 22br dies don't you Dean?

Yes I meant 22br I fixed it, there is also a 6mm version of this wildcat that uses 6BR dies, and is a nice alternative as far as a 6mm wildcat goes, without having to load to aggressively, but still will send a 105gr Amax to 3300 to 3400FPS, it uses the same Lapua brass.

.

Dean, being new at this, could you explain what you mean by a gutted Swede die. I think I know, just checking.

Also, do you really use a 6MM bullet seater? :)

What I mean by a "gutted" die is, you take out the threaded rod that holds the decapping or depriming pin, and expander ball, and what you have is an empty or gutted full length sizing die, so you can resize the body part of the casing oppose to the neck and shoulder, and I said not to tease me about the seating die,;)

Great idea and great write up so far, can't wait for a range report!

Looks like this would have a bit more capacity than a 22-308, is that correct?
