Mounted one on my new Shilen 1/8 twist 223 build. I like the clarity of this scope, on par with my Vortex and in the same price range.

Glad to hear that. I have a Weaver V series 4x16x40 with the fine cross hair that I bought more than a decade ago. Still a good scope. Is the one you have the Grand Slam series?

Would also be interested in how the 8 twist Shilen barrel shoots.

No, this Weaver is the 40/44 series. I shot the Shilen barrel this weekend for the first time. Saturday I put 40 rounds through it, worst group was 3/4" and the best was .398" with a 75 grain A-Max. No copper fouling when I cleaned the bore.

Shot it yesterday with additional handloads. Best group was .314" with the 80 grain Berger VLDs. Worst was 1.158" with the 75 grain A-Max seated .005" off the lands pushed by 23.2 grains of RE-15. Look like the A-Max like to be .010" off the land in this barrel to shoot well. Round count is now 65. Everything is mounted in a BVSS laminate stock with adjustable cheek rest that has not been glass bedded. It's shooting so well, I think I'll leave it alone for a while. So far I'm quite pleased with the Shilen.

Additional load development is on hold as I'm heading to New Orleans today to do security work for BP in reference to the oil rig disaster in the Gulf, will be gone about 30 days.

GaCop The weaver 40/44 was originally marketed by ATK as the Intensity brand. They basically had four different models to chose from, they were around for about 2 years when ATK decided to place them under the Weaver brand name.
I actually bought one for $94 on close out, a 3.8-12x44,I needed a scope for a 223 Bushmaster and while I was waiting for a back ordered scope I saw this one and thought what the **** might as well try it, along with the scope I received a coupon for a pair of Champion electronic ear protectors and a lens pen,so the scope was almost free. Not a bad deal.
Needless to say I was very surprised at the clarity and performance of this scope, I now have it on a 260 build and I think it may stay there for a while. Unless I find a place to shoot out past 200 yards this will suffice.I have mentioned in other post not to be afraid of the 40/44 because of the results I have gotton from it, I do not know what Weaver's price point is but if they kept it low(>$200)it is a very nice scope for the money.

"froggy"
I bought the 4x12x44 AO (Intensity) when they first came out advertised as a "Weaver/Federal. Its on a Ruger M77 MarkII in 7mm mag. Hunted it in Kansas and Tenn. --rotten weather (rain) took deer in both states. Scope did not fog, but lost some clarity after 10x. Spot on accurate. I wouldn't be hesitant to purchase another.

I'm back from the "cluster ----" in La. Spent a week sitting on my butt in Venice La waiting to got to work. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing down there. Any information given is totaly wrong 5 minutes later. Its a wonder anything gets done.

Back to working up loads for the .223 with the Weaver.

I purchased a 6.5-20x44 under the Intensity brand some months back for $90, great scope, clear, precise, using on a 223 and holds zero 100%,only wish I had bought 3 at that price.
