Ok should have clarified I can't find any hornady brass on stock. Not interested in almost $1.50 per unprinted brass. Too rich for my blood.

take a look at the rugers... http://www.ruger.com/micros/rpr/spec-18005.html also what do you mean by un-printed brass?

Anither problem is what factory heavy barreled rifles are there in in 6.5 CM?

You can also call the Savage Custom shop and they can build you a rifle as well if you don't see a model that exactly matches what you're looking for.

Well my problem is I will be putting it in a chassis. So I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to build. I was going to use the hog hunter .308 as my base build. It seems savage actions are higher then the complete rifles and then have to get a new barrel. So $500 action and a $500 barrel is way more then a $450 hog hunter.

How much is a 26 inch threaded barrel for a 6.5 cm? I just guessed at $500 so it might be way more then that. I also would have to send off to get it assembled.

Just called NSS and got the following quote for a barrel and action. Already double the price of the 20 inch barrel .308.

Criterion 26" varmit barrel $300
savage varmit action $515
NSS recoil lug $27
NSS barrel nut $28
Barrel nut wrench $25
Action wrench $60

$955 base price.

Of course it's double the price. They're all higher quality parts than the off the shelf Hog Hunter. The Firearms industry is one of my only experiences where you really get what you pay for!

1) I have read the creedmoor is a better round past 700 yards
1.5) I was wondering if any of you have had experience with the two rounds and if there is a noticeable difference in long range accuracy?
2) but there is also a higher cost
3) and I'm assuming less availability with it.
4) I will be buying match grade ammo and possibly making hand loads in the future.

1) "better" is a very specific term, and really doesn't mean anything without a lot of qualifications. It is true that the velocity is higher, and it will stay supersonic longer. As long as you don't shoot a poor choice in bullets, this is irrelevant. the 175 SMK was designed and militarily verified to be accurate when crossing. Some mfg's "sexy" BC bullets will NOT cross safely. If you have no ability to call wind, or a scope that has no adjustment range, then the creedmoor is easier to hit with; but it isn't "better".
1.5) This is specific to a barrel quality, and not inherent to a cartridge.
2) Perhaps, can't say
3) I would say for "Match" ammo it is a push.
4) Good for you, always a good plan.

Easier to get hits with IS the definition of better.

Only thing that really worries me is not being able to find 6.5 ammo or components. I am starting from scratch and have nothing. So a caliber choice is completely open for me really. Looking to attend a couple of long range training classes this upcoming year and also shoot some tactical matches IF I can find any around me

I went through this when I got into long range shooting, I went with the creedmoor as I wasn't reloading at the time. I've never paid more that $24/box for 140 amax and managed to get the winchester ammo for $18/box when Midway had it on special, bought 600 rounds. As far as I'm concerned it's a wash on the cost of factory ammo with the .308 as you're going to need to shoot FGGM 175's with the .308 or Hornady 178's. 155's work well if you push them and 165's have a tendency to tumble after 800 yards. My local shop doesn't carry the 6.5 140 amax and they have little of the Federal Gold Medal Match 175's so it would be online purchases for me anyway.
My Savage LRP shoots 1/2 MOA, 26 in full bull barrel, it ain't light. :) I get about 2800fps with factory ammo, a smidge more with my reloads. Wind calls are easier with the 6.5, and it takes less elevation to get to 1k over the .308. I've got mine in a Mcree chassis now but the XLR's are popular too. I've bought both my mcree's used for less than 450/ea, one fixed, one folder.

6.5 bullets aren't hard to find. I haven't had much luck with the stores around where I live, but I can order match bullets from a variety of manufacturers.
http://bullets.com/search/?s=category%3abullets%2cbrand%3aberger&s=caliber:6.5

6.5 creedmoor brass can also be purchased.

Both powder and primers are becoming more available and easier to find. You will have a tough time finding any 6.5 ammunition on the shelves.

**** brass is so expensive though. It's bad when hornady is the cheapest.

Don't know if you are married to any of those components, let's assume you aren't. This idea may be more appealing to your wallet if you live anywhere near a Cabela's. At the moment, they have the Savage 12 FV on sale for $389.00 you would buy this rifle and sell the stock and barrel. (the selling prices are of course estimated but I think reasonable)

12FV Rifle -$389.00
26'' Heavy Varmint Barrel- ($125.00)
12FV Stock- ($40.00)

Savage 12FV Action- $224.00

Next, get your SS threaded 6.5 Creedmore Barrel from Jim Apache Gun Works. - $240.00

Forgo the barrel nut and just purchase the recoil lug, action wrench and barrel wrench. $112.00

Also you will need 6.5 Go and No-Go gauges which you can rent for $8.00 from here http://www.4-dproducts.com/ordering_info.php

That totals $584.00 which is a significant savings. Drop it into and XLR Chassis with a Primary Arms 4-14x FFP Scope and you will a very capable long range rig.

We here at Savage Shooters are notoriously creative and also cheap!!

So what 12FV is the easiest to sell the barrel from amd what caliber can I use for the 6.5 CM? I thought about that rifle already but the problem is they are always out of stock around me.

You would want the .308 or 22-250 version so you will not have to fool with changing the bolt head. As for availability, you can call and ask and even get a store-to-store transfer or put them on hold if need be.

Easier to get hits with IS the definition of better.

Well... It IS the definition of wanting to buy ability, not learn to overcome something difficult; whether or not that is "better" depends on what you want. Self driving cars are "better" if you are drunk all the time, but not if you want to learn to drive.

**** brass is so expensive though. It's bad when hornady is the cheapest.

Do what most of us early adopters did: grab your mountains of cheap mixed 308 brass, trim to Creedmoor length, run through your full length die, double check length, load away!

Just buy the factory ammo shoot it and retain the brass. It will be cheaper and more fun

I'm still debating between the two. I don't see myself doing much shooting past 100 yards. The longest range in my area is 900. I know that a .308 will do that but everything I read says the 6.5 is way to go. This will be a rifle I want to keep for a long time so I don't want to make the wrong choice and regret buying it. Shortly after purchasing my .223 rifle I kinda wished I would have gone with a .308 version
