How would one go about head spacing a 6 Dasher barrel to a Savage action?

I will not buy headspace gauges for one off chamberings, so What I do is get a fired piece of brass and full length size it and use that, and for the no go I use the same case and some foil tape http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Adhesives/Tapes/Products/~/Foil-Tape?N=5472880&rt=r3. It is much better than scotch, masking, painters, or what ever.

It's kinda hard to headspace with a piece of brass that's not fireformed yet. Use a go gauge.

I agree. As stated above, you can rent a set.

As I've been told before, you're setting up a co tolled explosion approximately 4" from your face. Buy or rent the gauges. It's worth it!

Thanks guy's I think we"ll rent them from the place LongRange suggested. Fire a few and make sure Sizing die can properly size them enough and go from there.
Normally I do what scope eye does but I just headspace off new Lapua brass because that is all I use for competition.

If you are going to rent the gauges anyways, I would headspace them off brass and then double check when the gauges get there.
But that's just me.

You still can't check it with brass before it is fireformed.....your'e dealing with a case that needs to have the shoulder moved ahead to start with. You can't do that with out setting the headspace on a gauge.

Exactly,,, I can't get 6 Dasher brass any where unless I borrow a couple piece's of brass from another shooter who has already formed brass.

A friend recommended expanding the O.D. neck up to ..280 cal then sizing first part of neck down to .268 creating a false shoulder and using measurements.

Let me know if you can't find any go/no go gauges.
