So, off the Savage topic, but I want to add a CMP Special grade Garand to the collection. Having trouble deciding on the .308 vs .30-06. I get free practice ammo in 308 through work which is why I'm torn because I'd kind of like it in the original. Thought?

specials are both criterion barrels, if you are going to keep it, it does not matter.
if you shoot other 308 guns, go for it.
I opted for 06 as I keep loading up on greek balls
