I recently got into reloading and have a question concerning COAL. I started load development with my .308 and have had good success so far. My wife has a 25-06 (Savage Axis) so tonight I started working with it. I checked seating depth and came up with 3.170". Refered back to my manual and noticed the max COAL was listed at 3.250. Then I went and measured several factory loads (Hornady AW) and they ranged 3.147-3.150. Basically, had I just loaded to specs, the cartridge would've been .080 too long. Yes, I'm new to reloading but this just seems odd to me. Thanks in advance for any insight you can give me.
Well, upon further investigation, I found that my manual lists a "max OAL" then separately lists a different OAL dependant upon which bullet your using. Showing my inexperience I guess, but it's just something else I've learned.
