Would like to try a wildcat. Need advice.

Just to be different. Been thinking about a round based on the 308 WCF run into a 300 Savage die. No other changes, the long neck and sharper shoulder being the goal. Should be just about equal to the 308 power wise, which is fine, but the longer neck means less powder space used up when using heavier bullets. Throat should be the same as the 308.
Does such a wildcat already exist? If not, who would I contact to have reamers made?

So just what is it you're trying to accomplish here? What is the intended use?

Rimmed cartridges don’t play well with the Savage 110 platform. If you’re going to spend good money on a chambered barrel, you might as well spend it on something that won’t give you constant headaches.

Am confused. When did rimmed cartridges enter the picture?
Anyway. Both the 300 and 308 are great rounds, but both could be better. It would be a great deer and black bear round as well as good for cast loads. Might even be more accurate than the 308.
Anyway, like I said, something different.

I lived in SE PA for 64 years, but the only dreams I had was how to get the hell out of there without a divorce settlement.
It did get somewhat better when things turned green and I could roll the windows down again.

How about just doing a .300 Savage Ackley Improved? That Savage case is one of the better ones to improve. Or just go with the .30T/C parent case of the Creedmoor. Definitely save you money on reamers and dies.

I'm not saying you can't do it by any means. But seems like a lot of time and money for extremely minor to no improvement. The 308 already works great with heavy 30cal Projs. FTR guys have been doing it for years with plenty of accuracy. What I don't get with this idea is the actual end state goal other than a different shaped case? Are you going to extend barrel life? No. Are you going to increase velocity? No. Are you going to increase accuracy? Not Likely or not enough to be worth the money and effort. Are you going to make a different shaped case? Yep.......

So where's the juice in this venture? It's your project, your money, your time, etc. I just want to know what is point? Competition that restricts you to 30cal only? Short range, long range, just hunting? A good 308 or 30-06 will do it just as well, but you'd be able to grab a box off the shelf in the case you couldn't find the components for the fancy wild cat cartridge you came up with etc. Just a lot of work in my opinion and not a lot of benefits if any.

Maybe make it an improved 7 that beats the 7-08 in velocity?

If you want 308 ballistics in a different cartridge just to be different, do the .30TC. If you really want to be tricky run a 308W case in the .30 TC die and have a long neck like a 30-06.
