I striped the OEM stock, after the finish was removed and I wet the wood it was BLACK. Then turned to a nice brown when dry. rubbed the wood with fine steel wool to get a very smooth finish. I did not try to repair any of the checkering as some of the diamond tops are missing. I do not think I could raise the tops and I was worried I would mess up the good checkering that is left. On top of that I do not have the tools to take on the job. This is the first coat of tung oil and after letting it sit for a bit I rubbed the stock to rub in the oil. I am more fond of a matte finish than a shinny finish

Man, that is a handsome rifle. Nearly as handsome as my vintage 110. :D

I love my newer Savages but damn the old ones had the looks. Enjoy yours!
