Looks very nice! Great work!

For a 3” forend for the bvss stock, here’s one made just for that stock:

Thank you pdog. I had lost the info to order one. But no more I just ordered one. Ill probably build a custom one cold winter day. But for now what you mentioned will get me to the bench faster.

Great! Let me know how you like it. I have their picatinny mount version that I use at the range on my AR and my Manners stocked Savage when I have the front rail on it.
Only issue I had with it is that it is 3d printed pc, and the bottom wasn’t as smooth as I would’ve liked to slide on my front bag, but a little fine sandpaper made it much better. Adding some stock tape or something to it would be the best answer I think though

update afternoon June 11 2024

Well Ill walk you through the prep as spreading epoxy is tedious and boring! Hahah

Okay no point in epoxy anything unless you have bare wood to adhere and it should be rough. I mean the wood IM"Humble"O as rough as 60 grit sandpaper. Thats why I like a good sharp chisel especially when working thin laminate wood. The reason is it cuts and if you tilt it to the left or right you can leave some grooves so the epoxy limits its running.

But the like any good wood tool it has to be razor sharp. So start that way and continue to touch it up with a stone. You'll know when as you cannot shave with it, instead it wants to dig.Darn black paint sticks to everything when its shaved off!

And the shaving and minor grooving begins. When I say groove mind you they about 0.11 mils about the size of a grain if hour glass sand.

Heres the final ready for epoxy. Yes some areas were done by mistake. Oh well Ill paint later. If you notice the vertical area in the magazine bay that has bear wood. That area is and the other side towards the front pillar will get extra epoxy. That area is where the delimitation of the laminate was occurring. So it got a thickened epoxy with silicone added to make it stable so it would not run.

Here I am applying modelers clay to the holes/slots in the action. For decades I have used a razor blade to trim it. It works very well and little clay remains to clean up. AKA: you waste little and the results will cause little deformation of the epoxy.

As I said a very good fill are the result of trimming the clay with the razor blade.

Don't know why I did not take a photo but I indeed followed Savage Shooters Freds good advise. Two raps of electrical tape on the barrel and also two wraps on the recoil lug. BTW I did cut the tape on the lugs' action alignment pin to make sure I had the same fit when the final gun is assembled.

Thats it...I used my finger and a brush apply the release agent. Then I thoroughly mixed the epoxy with Popsicle sticks and applied it with several other Popsicle sticks. Horizontal areas first and the vertical areas the had epoxy mixed with a silicone filler to thicken it and stop sags. I used the existing action screws to lightly snugged it down. For ease of clean up I let it set for 1/2 hour and then went back and again used a razor blade to remove excess. Epoxy is a funny critter...thus it will set for 2 days before removing the barrel and action.

Good luck :) Looks good.

I had mine out today at 1000yd and I put up a paper tgt. Usually I just set up a 6" gong and try to hit it. Misses are easy to see. I got a bit frustrated so shot at the paper. Can't see the holes at that distance so when I was done I went out and looked. 6 shots in 3.5" (my best ever group at that range). The gods must have smiled on me :) My windage was off by 5", which is probably why I kept missing the gong. Darn wind flags were blowing right so I added correction. I guess mid range it was blowing left. These were Berger 105 VLD Hunter bullets and N540.

Nicely done indeed! I figure I have another 2 months before I am ready. Cant rush things. Besides the weather will soon be be mid 80's to 90's each day and humidity will be the same as a rain forest! I hate Iowa Summers!

Yes, do take the time. It is worth it in the end.

LOL, that's why we live in the desert. I'd rather have 105deg days than 90% humidity anytime. I grew up on Phx so 105 in the summer is on the cool side :) We've lived several places in the east and the kids live in SC and FL so we have experienced the moisture quite a bit. It just reminds us why we like where we are.

OTOH, you guys have green landscape! And rivers with water in them :)

Update 6-13-2024

I used for the fist time I used a Pro-Bed 2000 4 oz stock bedding kit. Cost was ~$33.00

To be honest I like it. Drying time was a full 24 hours. I new this as I left a small amount of unused epoxy the paper mixing bowl and with the included popsicle sticks. The epoxy mixed easy at about 1-1 but its not touch like some epoxy where mix has to be exact. Alone the viscosity was good and it flowed like a thick vanilla malt on horizontal spaces. For vertical areas I added the included silicone thickener to stop runs.

The release agent did its job superbly, couple of easy bumps on barrel near the stocks forend and it popped right off.

Heres the photos...Ill post a final photo after I paint the inlet area of the stock with gloss black.

Right after pop off,,,typical flash and a few runs to clean up.

I am satisfied with the finished product. But darn the sheen is just to great, No matter where I tried a picture the details were hidden in shine.

Update 6-17-2024

1) Final sand of the stock and one last coat of clear applied. Great day for curing paint believe it or not its only 30% humidity and 85 degrees.
2) I did a tad bit of cleaning of of the release agent on the action and carefully put the trigger/sear assembly onto the action. I put a tad bit of grease where from removal of the release agent. I also put SharpShooters single shot follower back in.
3) Tomorrow around noon Ill put it back together for a reveal and a :baby:baby picture.:baby:-Complete
a) Double check the bedding job with the trigger and follower installed = Complete had to do some mods for the trigger using the poor mans Mil.
b) Get out the Blue Locktite and mount the new 20MOA Pica-tinny Rail.
4) Then the barrel comes off and I do the search for OAL the Speedy Gonzales way! Which really is easier than chasing lands the old way with a OAL Gauge! Hahah

Last thing for the stock was go to the store got some Mequiare's Ultimate Compound cutting agent and then hand buffed it after a 5 minute driy with Mequiare's Ceranic Wax. I guess I feel when you use automotive clear for a finish it needs automotive products to make it super smooth, protect and shine. Now if I get a scrape I should be able to repair with the cutting agent.

Okay all was assembled and it posed for some pictures.

Heres the camelion stock alone, notice the deep dark color.

Note: the marks below and to the rear of the pistol grip is a reflection of the level! :o
That is not the final scope, just threw on my Varmint scope for aesthetics and break in. I plan on purchasing a Sightron SV 10-50X60 ED

Very nice. See you got the bag rider in. How’s the fit and feel?

Like you said it is atleast a good temporary unit and also a base to go off of for making a wooden one.

Fit is very good! Heres the positive issue I have with the forearm foot. It is very light, thus, its hard to justify making one out of hardwood.

Shame its so ugly and I hate ugly. IMHO every rifle whether its a working gun, bench or F-Class shall be beautiful. Just like our shooter forefather sport shooter appreciated. Guess that is why I hate aluminum stocks so much. But like the plastic forearm foot I understand the reasons for aluminum.

This will be the end of Savage 12 BVSS 22-250 to 6mm BR build (http://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?73040-Savage-12-BVSS-22-250-to-6mm-BR-build/page4) next post will be SAVAGE 12BVSS 6mm BR Settings and Fine Tuning.

While I am here I would like to express a huge thank-you to Criterion Barrels and Fred and Lisa from SharpShooter Supply for their superb craftsmanship and years of knowledge. A huge thanks to everyone on this site for their knowledge and input. The Sponsors on this site have also served me very well.

I am not done as now its time to find the lands, then set the head space and start getting loads ready for barrel break in and fire forming. Case Annealing and a bunch of other fun stuff. Then its time to get a custom full length re-sizer for my bench arbor from L.E. Wilson for serious bench load workup.
