I can't peak for the Vortex but I have a Sightron SII36X42AO BRD (fixed magnification) on a 93R17 I shoot mostly from rest. The aiming dot is visually smaller than a .17 HMR bullet hole seen at 100 yards. The glass is as clear as can be, the Adjustable Objective near focus is 10 yards, the windage and elevation are in 1/8 MOA clicks, the guarantee is lifetime (regardless of owner, I believe), it holds zero flawlessly, and it came with a sunshade.

How much did the SII run you? I've been thinking about a fixed 36 power.

$379 a few years ago. It's now a discontinued model replaced by the SIIB3642BRD. click here (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=Sightron+SII+36+X+42+AO&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1272&bih=903&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=10598478658793814614&sa=X&ei=g6DnTar_D-To0QHixLGVCw&ved=0CE8Q8wIwAA) for some sources of the discontinued version. The main difference between the versions is the full focus range on the SII3642BRD version requires two full turns of the objective and only one full turn on the SIIB3642BRD version. Other features and optical and material specs are the same. It's a very good scope for the money. The only other one I considered at the time—the only other one I could find—was made by Weaver.
