Where's the 260AI stand? I choose it not just for velocity, but for efficiency- Velocity per grains of powder/ a bit less overbore/ barrel burner.

hey sorry I forgot this one

260AI 140 gr 2950fps 2706 energy
H-4831sc 47.5 grains max load

Join ammoguide.com $18.00 a year
they have more info than I have ever found in one place

Forget the barrel burner bit I shot a 25-06AI at 3920fps 87 grainers for 25 years before it went away.

I've got a 6.5 x 47 (not on the list), and then my blast-from-the-past 6.5 x 54 Mannlicher I inherited from my dad...

I have the 6.5-.284, the .264 Winchester is likely the next 6.5 I'll own.

I love the 6.5RM, but I wouldn't expect to push it that fast. Of the twenty-three 6.5RM 140 loads on that site, that's the only one over 3100. All the fastest loads there use Bergers, and I'll bet that they are seated out so far that they wouldn't fit in a short-action magazine.

Evidently, Lane Simpson himself doesn't feel comfortable telling us that the 6.5 STW is good for much over 3300 with a 140 partition, and that's a much larger cartridge:

That 264WM load is straight out of the 1992 Hodgdon #26 manual, with a 26" barrel (primer and bullet make aren't specified). In that same manual, again from a 26" barrel, the 6.5RM loads top out at 2943.

Currently my 6.5s include two field weight SS Tikka T3's in 6.5x55....this is an easy rifle/cartridge to like along with being easy to handload for.....very good selection of dies along with quality components...the Swede was developed in Europe in 1891 as a military cartidge...yes it is still going strong...but many overlook it...bullets from 95 gr V max up to 160 gr Hornady RN...and lots in between...
My other 6.5 is the 260 Ackley Improved that I assembled myself using a large shank s/shot Savage 12 action...has a 27" x 1.120" no taper Pac Nor tube on it....

The Tikka weighs less than 8# w/glass & extras....the Savage 260 AI weighs just under 18# & they both love to shoot...

If I were to build another long range 6.5 barrel....the 6.5x55 would be an easy choice.....for me I'd make an exact copy of my 260 AI bbl...except in the Swede....

Pic is my T3 Tikka 6.5 in coyote hunt mode.....glass is Nikon 3-12 w/towers and calibrated to 600 yds.. ;D
pic two is the 260 AI......w/4200 Tactical...w/towers calbrated to 1K yds..
