That speaks eloquently about which filler to use in my opinion. I wonder how much fouling results from the styro foam filler? I know that if you burn styro foam it leaves a nasty crust behind. Making a punch to cut plugs of foam would be simple. Looks like more research in my future on this. Thanks for posting.. Jim

Ok, I know this is an old thread but is anyone still working with this and/or where has it gone? I have other questions about the build Just don't want to drag up something no one is interested in sharing about.
Thanks in advance

I'm still playing with it Joe, just too many other projects right now that made this one take a back seat. I may well shoot bambi with this one the coming season. It's still alive, but maybe on some life support right now.

I was one of my first wildcats and still one of my favorites.

Hate to admit but has been almost 1yr to the day since I have had it out. Its an under appreciated cartidge. Had a lot of distractions this year.
Looking better for the upcoming months.
Still want to try some more bullet/powder combos.

Too many '50's to play with.. Haven't been able to do justice to any of them lately. Time to get the Beowolf out and get it ready for Deer season..

Well i found a donor rifle so i'm finaly going to put my Thumper together! I purchased a barrel from a fellow Savage fan on this forum. I've read thru all 21 pages on this beast and settled on 2.655 on case length. My cases are all over the place as i measure them rite out of the box, some up to 2.272. Any input is welcome!
Thanks!

There isn't much more satisfying then knocking the bullseye out with 1-shot!
Suggest a tough scope with solid warranty.
I like to use packing peanuts as fill for anything but compressed loads. Makes it easier to get bullets crimped consistently. I push em through a case that flaired on 1 end cut with a razor to size.
Pick a bullet and plan to kiss the rifling. Headspace will probably vary with some bullet profiles. ie Barnes xpb's
I need .002 between the case mouth and rifling.
If you have a longer barrel (mine is a 20") it will be interesting to see what velocity ya get. The 20" does throw the muzzle and shooter around a bit.
Just random thoughts.

My barrel is a 30". I went ahead and threaded it for a muzzle brake to tame the recoil a bit. I hope to shoot it this weekend but it supposed to get real cold!!!

I bought a 500/375 barrel from 'Sixonetonsoffun' some years ago. It has taken me awhile with other distractions, but I have a Savage chassis gun built. I have always called it a 500/375 with a 2.50 case length.
Recently I purchased a AR10 Wildcat in 50 Krater. The 50 Krater uses the .375 case in a 2.25 length. The manufacture of the Krater is beginning to make reloading dies that he has designed tol also reload the 2.5 straight wall case of the 500/375. He is creating a 3 die set. The first test ones are off to the heat treater. Don't have any price info on them yet. Just wondering if any 500/375 shooters have any interest in die sets. Understanding that their interest will be price dependent.
