The issue with erratic fps I posted back a ways... Was a full case non compressed load. The bullets just sitting on the powder crimped. Bad idea as you can see. Doesn't build enough pressure for proper ignition and results in all kinds of trouble. Creating in both high and low pressure scenarios.
All my loads used filler to create a compressed load. Except that one. Don't know wtf I was thinking.
The 87gr compressed loads I had zero issues with pressure. RL7 is the perfect case full for me with bullets under 400grs.
The best for hunting will likely be H4198 or IMR4198 for less temp sensitivity.
I think tac will work best (of what I have on hand) with the 400+ grain bullets but haven't gotten that far.
I would really like to find a Rem 798 300wm to build one of these on the cheap and have the advantage of controlled feed. Thus eliminating short cases being an issue. I can see where it would be a huge benefit when switching bullets especially.
