Congrats Nice buck!
Very nice indeed. That's a wall hanger by my standards for sure!
Nice buck; I will be hunting LBL in Kentucky next year.
It is in my book as well Barrel. I was so excited I did not think to take any measurements at all on the rack. I left it in KY with a taxidermist my cousin uses. I will pick up the mount when we go up there next year. My guess is it will score right around 140 boone and crocket.
congrats great buck ya got there
Congrats. I will be up on the Kentucky border tomorrow trying my luck out.
Thanks guys good luck on your hunting. Hope you can bag something even bigger to share with us.
That's a solid KY buck, sir! Very nice. They don't get the massive racks like across the river in Ohio, but I think our deer taste better anyway. If you live in KY and see mass at the bases, you better drop that boy and get him scored! they're few and far between in the eastern side of the state, I don't care if you're driving a brand new Mercedes, run him down!
Nice model 88 too. Weaned on an 88 in 308.
Thanks it is Papa's old rifle it functions flawlessly, but the scope that was on it must have been 30 years old. Took it to the range before the hunt to sight it in and the elevation knob broke off in my hand. I scrambled and found a BSA 3x9x40 in one of my boxes of Crap. Nothing like mounting a scope the day before you leave and for a trip 800 miles away, but it all worked out. This year I will be taking my new Savage 111 trophy hunter in .270. Which reminds me I need to start ordering some parts and get on the ball November will be here before I know it.
that's a nice lookin' 88, I own one in .308.
MMMM.... Tasty corn fed deer. Nice deer.
Just went online to purchase my license and permit for this years hunt. KY decided to raise there fees now $275 for one buck and 3 does.
Nonresident?
yeah but they went up on res and non res
Seems to be the trend everywhere unfortunately
You gotta love that "free" meat. Just like anything else,if you want to play you got to pay!
Oh yeah that free meat is more expensive then filet mignon by the time I pay for gas, tags, food and ammo. We do it for the comradery.
And that dosent count any processing cost. We pay $60 for a basic butchering cost after we skin the animal. Nothing special by way of sausage etc included.
Current fuel cost for me to travel the 1200 miles from FL. to our PA. camp is about $500 each way. That dosent allow for any travel cost by way of meals, motel etc.
Non res license adds another roughly $150. But yes, the meat is free assuming there is any lol.
I process all my own meat so I do save a little money....sort of.....unless you consider the 8 - 10 hours my cousin and I spend doing it every year when we get back. Which reminds me I am out of Jerky. Fuel cost me about the same to go to KY and back my Silverado doesn't get the greatest mileage.
Exactly what i drive, 3/4 ton 4wd crew cab with an 8 ft slide in camper unit which never comes off. About 12 mpg regardless of where or what. I have a jeep rubicon
i leave in PA which gives about the same milage. Fact is im leaving for PA today. I'll spend a few days visiting a few friends in route but should arrive over
the weekend. Looking foward to cooler weather and hearing the elk bugeling. But come mid dec ill be dammed glad to be heading back also.
I am starting to get amped up. Kentucky trip in less then a month. We are going up for 9 days this time so i am pretty excited. We were kinda pressed with only 4 days last year. Time to get my butt back on the loading bench with all the ammo we like to waste up there I am going to need a lot more for 9 days! This year we are going to do a fun competition koolaid jugs at 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 yards. There has been lots of trash talk this off-season about his remington shooting circles around my savage! Hopefully I can do it justice. He seems a bit more nervous since I sent him some pics of the 3/4" groups.
Yes it's that time again! Don't forget to pick up that nine pt from the taxidermist too. Should look awesome on your wall!
My brother was able to make a nine-day Kentucky hunt a couple of years ago. Said he saw more deer in nine days than we see in nine seasons down here.
LOL! I don't think I could forget all three of us have stuff there. I would believe him especially if he managed to get up just as the rut was peaking. It was nuts last year as a Floridian we just don't see more then 8 to 10 deer (and that is very rare). Last year I saw groups I couldn't count driving around and 10 deer coming into feed was the normal at the stand. The bucks are just luck of the draw truly because they just loose there minds. We got cameras up there at all the farms we have access to and never once did that 9pt show up and the big wide 12 that had been all over the cameras was no where to be seen.
Sounds awesome! I know what you mean. In a typical season here in S. Louisiana, I might see three or four deer on stand, and usually none that I really care to shoot. There are some really nice ones here, they just learn to be almost totally nocturnal. I got this guy hanging around, but so far only at night. Good luck with your trip and send us pics. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/10/15/ge6e9u3e.jpg
Man I would love to see him. That belly is huge. How old do you think he is? My uneducated guess would be about 4 years old.
You and me both, brother. They rarely get over 200lbs in my neck of the woods, and I'm guessing he's all of that. Probably 4-5 years old, and will probably die of old age in an area where there's a stand every 400 yds. Smart critters. Lol. But maybe I'll get lucky. That's what keeps me in the woods.
