I am new to the site, and don't know what the heck I am doing, so I need help regarding the Savage 24V series D 30-30 20 gauge date of manufacture serial number C872XXX.

Look for an oval circle containing 2 digits and a letter, the digits are the inspector's ID# the letter is the date code. Click on this sticky topic at top of this forum to decode - Rifles with Date Code Stamp (1949-1969)

If it has a serial number, it’s post-1968. That makes a mighty narrow window for the oval date stamp.
